About Douglas Hannant
Although his nickname the “Park Avenue Prince” may imply tradition and formality, his designs are anything but! A Douglas Hannant creation combines time-honored silhouettes with modern design. He has perfected the balance between convention and modernity, classic and couture, old-school sophistication and new-school sexiness.
Born in Central Illinois, Hannant’s journey in fashion first took him to Northeast Missouri State University where he earned a BFA and then on to the Fashion Instiute of Technology. After earning his degree from FIT, he quickly moved up the well-dressed ranks of the fashion world working in visual merchandising at Bloomingdale’s and Barneys, until finally in 1996 he was ready to debut his own collection of “Modern Classics” with Bergdof Goodman. In a personal note to Douglas Hannant, the renowned Geoffrey Beene described his feelings upon seeing Hannant’s collection displayed in the window of BG on Fifth Avenue this way, “Just when you think there is no hope, a beacon flashes. Your clothes in Bergdorf’s windows are superb. What a career you have before you.” Beene became a valued friend and mentor to Hannant.
Hannant’s devoted followers have grown to include socialites and A-listers alike. Noted aficionadas include Beyonce, Charlize Theron, Sarah Jessica Parker, Jennifer Garner, Nicole Richie, Minnie Driver and Sheryl Crow. His designs can be found not only in his own New York and Palm Beach boutiques, but are also carried by high-end retails such as Neiman Marcus and Saks Fifth Avenue.
